Customs Intercept 24 Suspected New Vehicles In Lagos Operation

CG Customs; Alhaji Dikko Abdulahi Inde
The Customs Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’ in Ikeja has intercepted 22 new vehicles, comprising of 19 Toyota Hilux pickups, two Izuzu-DMAX Jeeps and one Toyota Land Cruiser GRX 2014 model, around the Ikoyi/Victoria Island axis in Lagos.
The vehicles which were seized in one operation last Sunday were valued at about N186.47Million
According to the controller of the unit, Deputy Comptroller Turaki Usman Adamu, the exotic vehicles were intercepted after what he called intensive intelligence gathering and laying of ambush by operatives of the unit.
He told newsmen yesterday that Customs FOU zone ‘A’ operatives “trailed the vehicles from an unapproved route, but could not intercept them there because of the possibility of recording casualties.”
“As professionals with the requisite training and competence, the Unit could not afford to embark on aggressive confrontation with the smugglers particularly in densely populated areas, hence the need to trail them to a safe place”, he explained.
According to him, “despite these precautionary measures, the smugglers engaged our operatives in a gun duel, but were over powered by the superior fire power of our operatives but interestingly there were no casualties”.
The Controller attributed the seizure to the “dexterity, resilience, commitment and dedication of all officers/men of the Unit, particularly the seizing officers”.http://shippingposition.com.ng/article/customs-intercept-24-suspected-new-vehicles-lagos-operation
