The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) yesterday commissioned its newly-built ultra modern secretariat at the Muritala Muhammed Airport amidst a lot of fanfare.
The commissioning was graced by arrowheads of the association, including its National President, Prince Olayiwola Shittu, Board of Trustees members led by its Chairman, Chief Henry Njoku, as well as the Comptroller General of Nigerian Customs, Alhaji Inde Dikko Abdullahi who was represented by the Zone ‘A' Cordinator of the service; ACG Victor Gbemudu.
Also present at the occasion were the Managing Directors of NAHCO Aviance and SAHCOL, National Airspace Management, Customs Airport Controller and the Commissioner of Police, airport command.
Speaking at the event, ANLCA President, Prince Olayiwola Shittu lauded the Murtala Moahmmed Airport  Chapter of the association for ensuring that the ultra-modern secretariat was finished under eleven months of their being in office.
He pointed out that this is a clear indication that his administration which came into power 2010 has achieved its mandate.
"If I say I am happy, it is an understatement, I need to recognize those individuals that have contributed to what we are doing today, it is a vindication of our own administration, when we came in 2010 we decided that professionalism, competency, integrity will be the watchword of customs brokers, I am proud of you all" Shittu said
Shittu said that the commissioning has further assisted the Federal Government in decongesting the Airport which had hitherto been characterized by huge crowds.
"It used to be a thing of disgrace, when you are coming from the international airport, you will see a sea of heads, and people are wondering who are these hooligans, they were not addressing us of course, because we that are licensed customs agents can never be hooligans", he added
Shittu promised that the secretariat will also play host to those that are not licensed so that they can be taught about professionalism and in due cause get their own licenses.
He assured the Customs CG; Inde Dikko Abdullahi that the association will lend its full support to the new Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) that has been launched by customs for the clearing of cargoes.
"PAAR has come to stay and we wish to assure the CG of Customs that we shall assist the customs to ensure that it works, and no amount of intimidation or blackmail will change our mind, even custom officers who stand in the way of PAAR, we shall show them the way out" Shittu said.
Speaking earlier, Chairman of MMA Chapter of ANLCA; Nze Alloy Igwe said that the construction of the secretariat kicked off in April 2013.
He assured that association will work consciously in tandem with FAAN security and other security agencies in order to sanitize and get rid of unauthorized persons at the popular Hajj Camp, Cargo terminal and warehouses.
Alloy also took time to highlight some of the achievements of his administration. He said that the chapter had embarked on massive enlightenment of agents, secured a retainer with a reputable hospital for treatment of its members.
Others includes; creation of group life insurance policy for members as well as changing the perception of other stakeholders about the association.
