ANLCA President; Olayiwola Shittu, Declares Second Term Ambition

The National President; ANLCA;
 Prince Olayiwola Shittu.
...Says 'One Good Term Deserves Another'

Even though he had initially kept mum on his intention to run for a second term, President of Association of Nigeria Licensed Custom Agents; Prince Olayiwola Shittu yesterday officially declared his interest for a second term in office.

Shittu, whose tenure of four years will end in April 2014, is seeking re-election for another term of four years.

While speaking at a two-day sensitization forum on the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) put together by the Airport Chapter of ANLCA, he appealed to clearing agents at the airport to key into his second term ambition.
Even though he declined further clarification when Shipping Position Daily correspondent approached him shortly after the event’s opening ceremonies, Shittu appealed to the agents to prevail on their executives at the chapter levels to bring back the present leadership of the association.

The out-going president told the crowd which included many members of his association that:"Let me make one announcement that has not been made, on behalf of my colleagues at NECOM, our tenure is coming to an end, we want you to prevail on your chapter executives that one good term deserves another".

When cornered by our correspondent for clarification, he simply said, “I will elucidate more on that".
On the Customs PAAR, Shittu submitted that the initial hiccup has now been taken care of, and that several imports have now been issued with PAAR. He urged agents to carry out correct and compliant declaration of cargoes.

He also lauded the initiative of the executives of the airport chapter of the association in putting together a sensitization programme for airport operators in order to update them with the provisions of the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) by the Nigeria Custom Service.

The ANLCA president also commended the airport executives for the financial support its rendered in the acquisition of ANLCA national secretariat which according to him will be commissioned soon.

"MMIA is one out of the 17 chapters of this association that has my undivided attention, especially with the coming on board of the present executives" he said.

Chairman of the MMIA Chapter; Chief Alloy Igwe said that the knowledge acquired through the two days forum will equip the  agents with skills that will enable them  to be able to compete with their counterparts at both home and abroad.

Also speaking at the event, the Customs Area Controller of Airport Command; Mr. Ndalati Garba Muhammed stressed that the PAAR is indigenous to the Nigeria Customs Service and that ANLCA has come of age in keying into the reforms instituted by the customs.

"This is a good timing for the association to key into the modernization programmes of the Customs, so we are here to show solidarity and acknowledge conformity" he said.
