Jolapamo, Ogbeifun,Vicky Haastrup, Others Eye Chamber Of Shipping Presidency

Jolapamo, Vicky Haastrup and Greg Ogbeifun
There are strong indications that the position of president of the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping (NCS) which has been vacant since the demise of Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe (rtd) last year is seriously being eyed by some big wigs in the maritime industry.

Shipping Position Daily also gathered that some top members of the Nigerian Ship Owners Association (NISA) are ambitious to occupy the enviable seat.

Apart from top contenders from the maritime industry, our correspondent also gathered that a top player in the finance sector is also interested.
Some of the names that were being touted for the position include; chairman of NISA; Chief Isaac Jolapomo, Managing Director,Starz Investment Limited, Engineer Greg Ogbeifun, ENL boss, PrincessVicky Haastrup and the current vice president of the chamber; Mr. Andrew Isichei. But speaking with the media in Lagos, the Director General of the chamber, Mrs. Ify Akerele mentioned that its late president had passionately wanted Chief Isaac Jolapomo to be on the board.

Akerele revealed that the annual general meeting that could not hold last year is scheduled for March 2014 and the vacant position will be one of the critical issues that would be discussed.

She noted that the late president who took over from Olorogun Oscar Ibru in 2010,was instrumental to the current rating of the chamber and its international recognition, adding that his position as president was also a door opener for the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping.

When asked who will be the next president after the demise of late Mike Akhigbe, Akerele disclosed that " I don't know who will come in as the new president of the chamber , but we have quite a few interested people"

"Anybody who will be the chairman of chamber will have a big role to play, the person will be able to take us to the (Presidential) villa ,which is one of the criteria, and definitely there will a meeting by March, and I think it is going to be an in-house something, even though there is no date yet ",she noted.

Hinting on the possible contenders, the Director General added, "there is Greg Ogbeifun, he is from ISAN and a very big player in the industry, there is Olorogun Eteghemegho who is the chairman Standard Alliance , who was at one time vice president of the chambers under Femi Otedola."

"There are new members who will be interested, by coming on board, we have Vicky Haastrup, Ian Hugo of LAMNALCO and he is the only White man on board and of course the acting president of the chamber, are the ones that have shown interest"

"I know Greg is from ISAN and we like him, but may the best one win, but we will work together with them", Akerele stated.
