ISPS CODE: Fresh Anxiety As US Coast Guard Revisits Nigerian Facilities This Week

After its last verdict in June, when it rated Nigerian ports and facilities low in the Implementation of the ISPS Code, officials of the United States Coast Guard are billed to visit port facilities beginning from today (Monday).
Shipping Position Daily gathered authoritatively last week that, the US Coast Guard team is due to arrive the country by the weekend and that they will be doing a follow-up visit to the facilities that fell short of expectations during their last visit.
Ahead of the visit, the designated authourity (DA) for the ISPS Code in Nigeria, that is, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) already put the various facilities and terminal on notice to put their houses in order.During the last visit of the US Coast Guard, it gave some facilities and terminals a clean bill of health, a lot more are however yet to meet minimum standards.
The 22 ports that have maintained effective anti-terrorism measures and their International Maritime Organisation (IMO) port numbers are: the Apapa Bulk Terminal with IMO port number NGAPP-0009, AP Moller Terminal NGAPP-0001, Greenview Terminal and Bonny Rivers Terminal.
Others are NLNG Bonny Terminal, Bonny Offshore Terminal, CBQ FSO YOHO (Exxon Mobile) with number NG638–0001, CBQ Logistics Base and CBQ McIver Wharf. CBQ Port Terminal A, CBQ QIT BOP, ESC Escra BOP, ESC LPG–FSO and Forcados Offshore Terminal also made the list. The rest are Onne FLT and Onne FOT.

But our source added that, the team will be US Coast Guard tem will be interested in the progress that have been recorded at the oil jetties and terminals, majority of which were declared as non–compliant during the last visit.
The list of non-compliant facilities, which was made available exclusively to Shipping Position Daily last week showed that several oil jetties and facilities were also not safe.
It included not less than 58 jetties, including petroleum jetties operating in different parts of the country.
