“No Money Was Taken From Our Terminal By Customs” – ABTL MD

The management of Apapa Bulk Terminal (ABTL) has thrown more light into its recent face-off with the Customs Area Controller (CAC) in charge of Apapa Area 1; Comptroller Charles Edike, in which the later was alleged to have ordered his men to unleash terror on some personnel of the former.
Speaking for the first time since the story was scooped by Shipping Position Daily on Monday, the managing director of ABTL; Capt  J. Bashir explained that, no money was carted away from the terminal.
In an e-mail to Shipping Position Daily, the managing director of ABTL explained that the terminal does not collect cash from its customers, hence there was no way there would have been bales of money for anyone to cart away.
While being silent on the face-off between the terminal‘s employees and the  customs  officers, the ABTL  chief executive officer  however explained that there was no way the terminal would keep cash in its custody since its operations are not cash-based.
In the mail, Capt Bashir urged us to, “please retract this erroneous information on anything relating to money in the said piece of your publication of yesterday titled "Apapa Customs Controller: Charles Edike on Rampage".
Shipping Position Daily had reported exclusively on Monday that nine staff of ABTL were detained after officers of  Apapa customs command invaded the terminal on account of an alleged refusal to allow the customs controller make use of the terminal’s facility as a thoroughfare.
The enraged customs officers also allegedly vandalized some offices at the terminal.
In the Monday publication, the public relations officer of the Apapa Customs Command, Mr. Emmanuel Ekpa was also quoted to have confirmed that the confrontation did take place at the terminal about three weeks ago, but added that it had since been resolved.

"I don't want to resurrect the whole issue because it has been resolved"

"I don't want to talk on it except the Controller himself wants to comment on it, if you had called me a week after the event happened, it could have been understandable, but the matter has been resolved, so for me to answer you now, the issue will come up again" Ekpa had told our correspondent.http://shippingposition.com.ng/article/%E2%80%9Cno-money-was-taken-our-terminal-customs%E2%80%9D-%E2%80%93-abtl-md
