As ministers sing for help, the DGs of NIMASA also sing. Early this week, at the same institution (MAN, Oron), while addressing maritime journalists, the same sing song was that: "the private sector should help the academy".
The incumbent DG, Mr Ziakede Akpobolkemi probably only neeeded to dust previous messages.
He told the journalist to report that: "We enjoin the private sector to come into MAN, Oron to complement the efforts of the Federal Government because government cannot do it all alone", he said, through the agency's spokesperson.
"We need someone from the private sector to come and build classrooms, buy training vessels for the academy and invest in needed equipment by the academy" he said.
But, why won't MAN Oron die when the Jonathan administration has cornered all maritime training budgets for the Niger Delta alone. The list include; Maritime University in Delta, Maritime Technical College in Delta. the now ethnically tilted NSDP for Niger Delta youths. And only on Wednesday, the latest was that:
The Federal Executive Council has approved N58.6 billion contracts for the construction of ship building facilities and dockyard in Delta state!
Why won't MAN, Oron die when all efforts have shifted to manpower development of the Ijaw nation and its people.
The Akwa Ibom nautical only needs some government attention to achieve its ambition of upgrading to a Maritime University, but President Jonathan and the Ijaw DG of NIMASA would rather pump the money to the Okerenkoko-based Maritime University.
