Customs Uncovers New Smuggling Route

The  Customs Area Controller, Western Marine Command;  Zakka Audu, said it has identified Kese, a coastal community in Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State, as the newest route for smugglers into Ogun State.
Audu disclosed that the command in two days seized goods worth N12 million in the area.
According to him, the first seizure on November 9 consisted of 1,225 cartons of frozen poultry products and 55 bags of rice.
“The duty paid value of the seized poultry products was N7.9 million, while rice was N614,000,” he explained.
He said that 200 cartons of frozen poultry products and 200 bags of rice valued at N1.3 million and N2.2 million respectively were seized on November 10.
“For that weekend alone, the command seized a total of 1,425 cartons of poultry products and 255 bags of rice, with a duty paid value of N12 million,” he said.

Audu commended the Customs Intelligence Unit on the success of the operations, adding that Novo Creeks around Kese have become a veritable route for smugglers.
He added: “This command has launched an offensive against smuggling activities and there is no relenting.
“We have discovered that Kese community and the Novo Creeks have become new routes for the smuggling activities because the seizures were made there on two different days.
“We are on top of the situation as we continue to react promptly to reports by the intelligence unit.”
