Typhoon Haiyan: Death Toll Continues To Rise

As at today (12 November), the death toll in Philippines has risen to at least 10,000 people killed due to Typhoon Haiyan, according to a senior police official.
One of the worst hit areas was the coastal city of Tacloban, about 580 kilometres southeast of Manila.

Most of the deaths are believed to have been caused by the surging sea water described as similar to a tsunami.
The UN’s humanitarian agency said that more than 330,900 people were displaced and 4.3 million people were affected by the typhoon in 36 provinces.
General cargo Andrea Princess (895 gt, built 1977) capsized and was washed ashore in Borongan town in Samar province, during the height of typhoon "Haiyan" on 8 November.
Thirteen crew members survived the mishap but six remain missing and one was killed.
