CRFFN Practitioners’ Fees Collection Turns Bloody At Seme Border

• ANLCA  Members Allegedly Beat-up CRFFN, NAGAFF Officials, Vandalise Council’s Vehicle

Attempts by officials of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) to commence collection of the practitioners’ fees at the Seme border in Lagos on Tuesday turned bloody as members of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) allegedly teamed up with thugs to beat-up  officials of the regulatory agency.

Sources at the scene of the attack told our correspondents that the CRFFN officials who came in an official vehicle were ambushed at the secretariat of the Seme border chapter of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF).
The attack was confirmed by CRFFN’s Director of Enforcement who told our correspondent how many hoodlums pounced on the officials. “I was beaten up by them right at the secretariat of NAGAFF, they even robbed us of our personal possessions”, he disclosed.

Another confirmation of the attack came from the Seme chairman of NAGAFF; Chief Ekene Ajunwa, who in a text message to Shipping Position Daily said that the hoodlums invaded the secretariat of the association shortly after the collection of the fees started.

He stated that: “While the collection commenced on a peaceful note, three hours later, ANLCA Chairman mobilized thugs in addition to his task force and attacked the enforcement officers of the CRFFN. The attack left CRFFN officials and members of NAGAFF badly injured and hospitalized; the CRFFN official coaster bus was seriously damaged”.

He added that, “working files and monies collected were taken away by ANLCA thugs”, even as he added that the Police were later called in.

But another source alleged that, it was the chairman of ANLCA at Seme; Patrick Ozobialu that actually led the attack.

However, when contacted, the national president of ANLCA; Prince Olayiwola Shittu told our correspondent that he had not been briefed about any attack, and that he was at Abuja.
“I am not aware of this, I have been in Abuja since yesterday, they can not be our members”, he told our correspondent.

Similarly, the Seme border chapter chairman of the same association, Mr Patrick Ozobialu was a bit evasive when confronted by our correspondent. He claimed not to be aware of any such incident, and also explained that he didn’t step into Seme all through Tuesday.

When asked if he was at Seme as at the time of our telephone conversation with him, he answered in the affirmative, but still claimed that he was not aware of any attack.http://shippingposition.com.ng/article/crffn-practitioners%E2%80%99-fees-collection-turns-bloody-seme-border
