The Real ‘Sin’ Of Sacked Managing Director of NPA; Habib Abdulahi

Former Managing Director of NPA; Habib Abdulahi
…Stakeholders query domiciling NPA Managing Directorship in Kano
...And MWUN welcomes new MD with notice of strike

Ahead of his resumption at his office this week, the new managing director of Nigerian Ports Authourity (NPA); Alhaji Lamido Ado Bayero will receive his first baptism of ‘fire’ from the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), which last week gave the NPA another 14 days ultimatum over the lingering issue of entitlement owed tally clerks and onboard security men, who are members of the union.
Our correspondent confirmed the day after Bayero was appointed, that the union’s letter actually got to NPA and was received in the CEO’s office on Tuesday that is the day after he was announced as replacement for Alhaji Habib Abdulahi.
Shipping Position Daily confirmed that, although the letter  which was signed by MWUN’s Secretary General; Aham Ubani contained same demands as before, this time it gave a definite notice that it would call is members out on a strike in all the nation’s seaports after the expiration of the latest deadline. The union, it was learnt had been hinted about alleged plans by NPA to do away with the tally clerks and on-board security.
Last week’s ultimatum is the third of such and the union says it is the final.
Apart from the union issues, many industry stakeholders also last week loudly kicked against the appointment of Lamido Ado Bayero, saying it is one of such appointments too many.
They specifically queried the appointment of another Kano indigene as the  CEO of NPA. Some even jokingly asked if NPA should be rechristened ‘Kano Ports Authourity (KPA).
Prior to the appointment of Habib Abdulahi, Kano has produced Engr Wali Ahmed, Alhaji Aminu Dabo, Abdusalam Mohammed and now Ado Bayero.
On the circumstances behind the removal of Habib Abdulahi, insiders also informed our correspondents last week that, the sacked managing director got fired because he was playing the Ostrich.
An insider told our correspondent that: “He was fired for disloyalty and pretention. Even though he allowed some funding from NPA into the campaign of President Goodluck Jonathan, he was never involved in the underground campaigns”.
This was also corroborated by sources in NPA who confirmed that the sacked CEO was actually out of the country during the Presidential elections, he was alleged to have also provided ‘supports’ for the opposition APC.
Another source also attributed his travails both the Minister of transport; Senator Idris Umar, as well as an unnamed executive director, who allegedly “told lies” about Habib Abdulahi to the ears of senior officers at the Presidency.http://shippingposition.com.ng/article/real-%E2%80%98sin%E2%80%99-sacked-managing-director-npa-habib-abdulahi
